About Me

Hi and welcome to Being Dhriti’s blog. A lot of people know me by name Jaya. I come from a traditional Sindhi family which follows the tradition of changing a girl’s first and last name after marriage. I got married on Dec 26, 2013 and thats when Jaya became Dhriti. This blog is about me stepping into the shoes of a wife, my love and passion for cooking, baking, clicking, trying out nail art and traveling with my hubby Manoj!

Manoj is a food connoisseur, my critic, my shopping buddy, my handyman who loves to make and break all things mechanical and my travel agent ;)

I grew up in Baroda, a small city in Gujarat (oh yes, the land of Modi). I had never stayed away from my parents until I was 22. I went to Pune for work after my bachelor’s but kept visiting Baroda almost every other weekend. I figured out that I won’t be able to stay away from my parents ever.

In 2009, my di and jiju who live in Seattle convinced me to come to US for further studies. Finally after lots of efforts, I made up my mind to give it a try and joined University of Arizona. After completing my masters, I came to California in 2011 and have been here since then. Love you lots Di and Jiju for motivating me to come to US, you have a big hand in contributing to what I am today :)

Before I got married, I was a fashion freak and loved doing nail-art during my free time. I never got into cooking as my mom is a food-genie. I would love whatever she cooks and if I need something else its just a thought away ;) After moving to US, I was too lazy to cook for myself. Later, I found an amazing Indian lady who would cook and deliver delicious home-cooked meals for me.

After I got married, Manoj tried the tiffin for a couple of times but he craved to eat home-made sindhi food. From then onwards we decided to make food at home. Manoj being a foodie, he was fond of cooking too. He would always help me in cooking. At times, he would make really awesome curries and I would make the rotis. Since then there has been no looking back.  I would try out new recipes every now and then. More than cooking, I pursued my interest for baking. Nov 2013 was the first time ever I baked a cake from a pre-mix on his birthday to impress him :)

I am very happy that you have visited my blog and spared your time reading through my story. I would love to hear your comments or suggestions from you. It would make my blog more lively! Looking forward to lots of learnings, getting inspiration and sharing happiness!

Have a wonderful day!

Dhriti :)
